It's easter. For retailers, the second biggest week of the year, behind only Christmas. So I tell my boss, "Boss. It's going to be frantic busy this weekend, we need extra staff, someone to help cover the coffee machine in the morning". He says nope, this particular store is quiet, everyone goes away, won't be busy, don't need anyone extra. Well I don't know Hamilton well enough to really argue the point, though I suspect that he may be a bit wrong.
Sure enough, I go in to work this afternoon to do some overtime, and the place looks like a bombsite. Sales are up 50% on the previous Friday, the cafe staff are frazzled bundles of exhaustion and everyone is bitching at me about lack of support.
I was right, we needed that extra person in the morning. Nights is different, not so many customers. Trouble is the boss doesn't see it broken up by day part, he only sees the overall figures for the whole day.
So now I need to play peacemaker, and also somehow convince the boss, judicously of course, that he is wrong, and public holidays are actually busy.
